Import of Rhododendron Seed into Australia

AQIS, Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service, administers whether and under what conditions plant material, including seed, may be imported into Australia. Relevant AQIS data is publicly available information searchable and downloadable. The AQIS database is called ICON. I last searched ICON, via Google, on 22nd June 2010 under the heading ‘Rhododendron’. Some details of the AQIS requirements are set out in the March 2008 Newsletter of the Australian Rhododendron Society Victorian Branch Inc. (“ARSV”). Seed of the Rhododendron species listed below (“Permitted List”) may be imported without an import permit from any country. This list will, shortly, be updated with additional species. AQIS has conditions that must be satisfied but, for present purposes, these are manageable. I have copied the Permitted List from ICON and edited it ONLY as follows:
